Multilingual expertise – Keeping the facts from being lost in translation

Considering the nature of today’s globalised world in which UK businesses are increasingly trading overseas, Hilton-Baird has had to stay on the front foot in its collections services offered to SMEs, corporates and lenders.

Language barriers can lead to significant problems and delays to the prompt and successful recovery of our clients’ money, and that is why we have ensured that our team possesses the necessary language skills to cater for all of our clients’ requirements.

This linguistic dexterity proved particularly crucial when Hilton-Baird was recently instructed to recover monies from a courier company’s debtors, a large proportion of which were poorly rated and based overseas.

And with many initially untraceable, it proved vital that the team was able to call upon its multilingual capabilities in order to bring the right conclusion to what was a very difficult situation.

The first task was to contact all the debtors, many of which were additionally disputing the value inserted onto the sales ledger. Detailed tracing work was therefore commenced to track them down and, once this stage was completed, the team was able to start to understand the circumstances surrounding such queries and why the debts remained unpaid.

But by working closely with them, we were able to resolve the disputes, negotiate settlements and recover around £500,000 in a very short space of time to recover our client’s position.
